Visual artist Willie Jan Bons (1967) lets himself be guided by what life offers him. Encounters that inspire and broaden perspectives. Impressions and events form the fertile ground for his work, which unfolds intuitively in both two- and three-dimensional forms.
In his search for stillness and essence, he consciously chooses natural materials, which not only carry his work but also bring their own story. This way, sculptures emerge where thoughts subtly come together.
The work manifests itself as a photographic image, whether analog or digital, or as a mixed media piece where photography is combined with other media.
Photography was my first love
I started black-and-white analogue photography, attended workshops on traditional photographic techniques, and explored developing my own colour film and prints. I also carried out photoshoots for theatre productions, food, reproductions and weddings.
I also had a lot of fun exploring Fine Art photography, taking materials from nature and creating stills.
Sculpturing
Besides photography, I also took courses of sculpturing with various teachers (10 years), including Jeanne Buijtels (Best) and Hester Pilz (Oirschot).
This helped me too look at objects with light and shadow, spaces, texture, details and the essence over detail.
Foto-Art
At some point, I got bored with technical perfect large format black & white images of landscapes. Later i discovered that I was missing a way to express myself through the images. This is the point where Foto-Art was started.
I found this missing link in a course where a teacher from an art academy took us to the next level to communicate through the image. At this moment we still come together every 2 months to discuss about the work and project we are working on without a teacher.
Mixed Media
After a work-related burnout in the IC-T sector, decided to search the artist inside of me.
In 2023, I started a 5 years education Mixed Media at the Art Academy in Arendonk (Belgium).
This helped me to work on projects using all kind of materials and to expand my creativity.
Now
Working on projects where photography and mixed media are merged together to create a message.
I still am working on the academy, which is a joy for life.
Whatever your reason is for visiting my site, let’s connect and explore the possibilities together.
